Opening Day at the
61st Annual Atlanta Buck Pole Contest
November 15th, 2008
We had a fair turnout for this years Buck Pole Contest.  The snowless grounds and windy cold temps put the deer into bedding after a mild temperature moonlit night of browsing.  We had our 10th entry come in at 2pm then a lull for the next 2 1/2 hours when a 157lb 6 pointer bagged by John Rice of Millington came  in that made the heaviest deer. It looked like John was going to take home the grand prize black powder rifle when 10 minutes later Jacob Sklarczyk of Johannesburg brought in his 194lb 7 point buck.  This was the heaviest buck at the Buck Pole Contest in the past 6 years.  Quite the record to break for next years contest. I hope we can do it! .   The 14th buck to come in for entry was at 4:58pm that was brought in by Rob Borkowski of Warren. No other entries came in until the 6:30pm closing time.  At 6:45pm prize announcements by Buck Pole CharChairwoman, Cathy Green.

This years Largest Rack  prize winner was a handsome 156 lb. 10 pointer that scored 107.  This nice buck was  taken by Kurt Rider of Carlton..  It had a spread of only 12 1/2"  but the lengthy tines and girth took the largest rack prize.

Thank you's to all the hunters that participated in this years contest and to all the generous donators of the prizes.   You all helped make a great event for us all to enjoy!

Thank you to the the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce including Buck Pole Chairwoman Cathy Green and her husband Gordon, Al Bryce &  Ken Werner who ran their bunns off checking in the entries, weighing hanging. Thanks for pulling this off!

Certainly not least, a big Thank You to Larry Samp of State Wide Real Estate who has allowed the Pole Contests on his business property for all these years. Thanks Larry!
