Opening Day at the
60th Annual Atlanta Buck Pole Contest
Thursday  November 15th, 2007
We had a real nice turnout for this years Buck Pole Contest.  The snowless grounds and windy cold temps didn't hamper 24 entries for the day.  By 2 o'clock we had 21 entries, then someone shut the off the faucet with only 3 more entries to check in within the remaining 4 1/2 hours. Still, it was indeed a car stopping sight with a bunch of impressive racks.   The majority of the entries remained hanging until the 6:45pm prize announcements by Buck Pole Chairwoman, Cathy Green.  This years Heaviest Prize went to Bob Rangel of Bay City who bagged a stout 172 lb, 8 pt buck that scored 121 1/4.   Alas, we weren't able to surpass the winning weight of 186 lbs from 2006.  Still, 172 pounds of big buck is still enough to make the stomach queezy from excitement.
This years Largest Rack  prize winner was a handsome 11 pointer that scored 123 1/8.  This nice buck was  taken by Mike Laurita of Lincoln Park.  It had a spread of 16" within it's nice bowl shaped crown.  Bet the doe's coo'd over this royal buck.

Thank you's to all the hunters that participated in this years contest and to all the generous donators of the prizes.   You all helped make a great event for us all to enjoy!

Certainly not least,  Thank you to the the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce including Buck Pole Chairwoman Cathy Green and her husband Gordon, Al Bryce, Ken Werner and John Snook who ran their bunns off checking in the entries, weighing hanging. Thanks for pulling this off!
