Harold Cashin of Midland with his 560 lb. 6x6 bull. Harold won his trophy for the Oldest Hunter hanging for the contest.

Mid-day  shot of day 1 of the contest.  Until noontime, the pole was empty.  Then that all changed as you can see.

Gordon Ferguson uses his loader to get these heavy beasts up on the elk pole.
Certainly alot easier than the block 'n tackle we use for the buck pole contest!
Thanks Fergie!

7 elk a hangin' at dusk the first day of the contest.  Temps were bitter cold but all in all it was great hunting, judging what is hanging here in the pic.

Collectors Elk Lock-blade knife was awarded for the largest rack.

Collectors Bone handle hunting knife  along with a $100.00 check was awarded for a heaviest elk prize

Malcomb Castle, president of the Atlanta BuisinessOwners Association awards Leo Fink the 50 cal. Muzzle loader prize for largest rack.

Guide, Carl Courser of Blanchard, Mi (left) and Leo Fink of Lincholn Park brought in this 7x7 600lb Bull at 10:58am on the second day of the contest. The only entry that day and he ultimately won the largest rack prize!   His true prize lay between them in the pic.

Leo Fink in his trophy pose. Leo is still smiling with memories of the hunt burning in his mind.
Congratulations Leo!

Keith Wachter of Munising won 1st Bull In trophy and antler-framed mirror prize with his 590 lb.  8x7 Bull.

The heaviest elk registered for this years hunt was only 20 lbs more than Caleb's 640lb Bull.

Standing proud, Caleb Pierson in front of his 640lb prize winning 6x7 Bull.

Mike, a local man, helped in hanging and registering for the 2-day contest.   It's volunteers such as Mike, Gordon and Rick that make events like this possible.

Caleb Pierson (15) of Temperance won Youngest Hunter and Heaviest Elk trophies for his 640lb 6x7 Bull.
Congratulations Caleb!!! Yeeee-Ha!

A perfect day in the northern winter snow.  Leo Fink showin' off all of his prizes 'n trophies.  When ya got it, ya flaunt it eh?   Darn tootin'!!!

Father 'n son, Gordon & Rick Ferguson have volunteered their time and equipment for the elk pole contest for many many moons (15years?)   Their assistance are key assets in the contest.   The bonus is the good time shared by all.  Plenty of huntin' stories and memories of these majestic elk that make Atlanta,
the Elk Capital of Michigan!

Ken Datte of Jackson sits beside his trophy  605 lb 6x6 Bull at the closing of the 2nd contest day.   He may not have recieved a contest prize, but I think his memory banks will remind him of the true trophy that he bagged.

Mutant Bucks wander these woods. By no means attempt to feed these creatures!
