Dan Yonker of Hudson took the trophy for first elk inand also for youngest hunter.
. This gorgeous 660 lb bull was a very close second to the heaviest elk winner.
Both bulls were taken in the Johannesburg areaDan had to get his bull back home and loaded up mid-day of the opener. The trick wasn't the hunt,, it was getting this huge elk into the back of this pickup truck! He should have recieved an award for that feat!

Gordon "Fergie" Ferguson of Ferguson Constructionused his equipment to help lift these heavy beasts. The right tool for the right job indeed. Gordon and his son Rick have been helping out for about 15 years now. Their contribution for all these years is truely invaluable.
.
.
Sixth and last entry was this
565 lb 6x6 Bull brought in at 4:47 pm by Joe Pellegrim of Woodhaven.
Andy Green (single white Atlanta
male) gives a size comparison, shown in the middle photo above.
Andy is over 6' tall and is dwarfed
by this huge bull.

David Aves of Fountain won a trophy for 1st Cow in and also for oldest hunter.
This cow weighed in at 380 lbs and that means alot of sausage, steaks and some heavy roasts.
How could something so cute and fuzzy taste so good?
Gale Eelman of Muskegon was the first woman hunter in with a 345 lb cow. Although there are no trophys for this, she did recieve a 12 oz. bag of "Bull Elk" coffee beans donated by North Woods Coffee House Gallery. Now Gale doesn't drink coffee, but her husband quickly coaxed her in to accepting the prize. Good choice, he'll enjoy a nice hot brew of "Bull Elk" after a belly stuffing meal of Gale's cow for many a cold winter night to come.
Mary Huren of Saginaw brought in this monster6x6 Bull with 48" left and right beams and a 36" spread. Mary declined to hang her bull and enter the contest. Too bad. Her bull would have tied for largest rack with 132 points. Mary would have had the decision of the tie and won the trophy for largest rack (being the average tine lengths were longer)
I'm sure Mary isn't disappointed. Her prize is settin' right in the back of this pickup truck!
